Why was this done?

  • The governments say the rationale behind data collection, and disclosure of data is to promote exploration and investment in the offshore and lower costs of acquiring data. 
  • Governments argue it’s necessary to maximize the discovery, and production of hydrocarbons within the areas of their jurisdiction.
  • Politicians like the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador,  Kathy Dunderdale have proclaimed that the “Greater Good” of increased exploration activity offshore Newfoundland outweighs things like Copyright, common law, and the property rights of GSI and other data owners.
  • Face it Canada has no property rights it was left out of the charter so it appears if you do not have an absolute right to your property it is clear you are a slave....
